What We Do

Grass is Greener Meats and Produce, LLC is a small, for-profit, farm enterprise located in Bremen, Indiana in Northeast Marshall county and owned by the Rowe family — John, Toni, Hannah, Leah and David. We are dedicated to raising meat and eggs without the use of artificial growth promoters or persistent medications or antibiotics. Our grain rations DO NOT include GMOs or animal-derived proteins.

Our Story

John attended Valparaiso University and earned a degree in Business Administration. He has been farming corn and soybeans in Bremen for over 20 years. Toni earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She left the world of research and manufacturing in 2011 to join John and their 3 children in the adventure of raising meat and eggs for their table and for the tables of local friends and family interested in a personal relationship with their farmer.

We raise a small number of cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. Our animal husbandry practices focus on birds following herbivores on pasture as found in nature. With the exception of our meat chickens, we raise heritage breeds that are no longer used in commercial agriculture. Many of our breeds are recognized by the Slow Food USA Arc of Taste for being a flavorful food in danger of extinction. Most of our breeds have a Conservation Priority Status (endangered) determined by The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC). We are members of the ALBC and several individual breed organizations for the purpose of supporting endangered livestock through breeding and marketing of their meat and eggs.
